The Opportunity

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Manufacturing Sales Representative to join our team at Absolute Machining. The position is responsible for maximizing the sales of our machining services and products through the achievement of opportunity-based sales goals. We are looking for someone who is ambitious and willing to put in the hard work necessary to build a successful book of business.

The ideal candidate will possess a passion for sales, a profound understanding of manufacturing processes and machining, and effective communication skills to convey the value of our services to potential clients. As a Manufacturing Sales Representative, you will play a crucial role in driving business growth by establishing and nurturing strong relationships with clients, understanding their unique needs, and providing tailored solutions that showcase our capabilities.

The compensation package for this position includes base salary and commission. This role reports to the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve business/sales targets through effective management of designated territories - obtain new customer accounts and maintain current customer accounts.
  • Identify and target potential clients in various industries who require precision machining and manufacturing services.
  • Effectively pitch to both small-medium sized regional accounts, as well as large corporate and national accounts.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective clients through cold calling, networking, referrals, and other lead generation methods.
  • Maintain deep knowledge and understanding of all Absolute services and product lines. Emphasize the features and benefits of Absolute’s products, machinery, and capabilities.
  • Conduct thorough research on client needs, industry trends, and competitive offerings to effectively position our machine shop's services.
  • Schedule and conduct meetings, presentations, and site visits with prospective clients to understand their requirements and showcase our machining capabilities.
  • Work with sales support, and accounting teams to efficiently manage all accounts.
  • Collaborate closely with the engineering and production teams to ensure that client needs and project specifications are clearly communicated and met.
  • Develop and present customized proposals, quotes, and estimates to clients, highlighting the benefits and value of our services.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with clients, aiming to achieve mutually beneficial agreements.
  • Provide exceptional customer service throughout the sales process and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to foster repeat business and referrals.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technological advancements, and market developments to adapt and enhance our sales strategies.
  • Attend industry trade shows, conferences, and events to expand your network and promote the company's brand.
  • Prepare and submit regular sales reports, forecasts, and updates to the general manager/leadership team.

Required Skills/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven track record of success in manufacturing sales, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • 3+ years of machine shop experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of precision machining and manufacturing processes, including CNC machining, milling, turning, and materials.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, logical, manner in formal and informal situations.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients, understand their needs, and provide effective solutions.
  • Proficient in using CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant sales and PC tools.
  • Highly self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients and attend industry events.
  • Positive attitude, resilience, and a strong work ethic.
  • Strong team player with the ability to effectively interact with all business units.
  • Ability to take initiative and anticipate obstacles and developments.
  • Proactive and decisive contributor who can effectively execute responsibilities.

  • Up to 60% travel required.
  • Living in Midwest US preferred to effectively service customer base.
